The ancient city of Chester is happily situated within a short drive of the beautiful Lake District, the mountains of North Wales, and, for those with an interest in Rock 'n' Roll history, the city of Liverpool.
If you have a desire to visit this fascinating city, you’re in luck! Chester and Lakewood cooperate in TWO exchange programs:
-Through our adult exchange program, groups of adults from Jefferson County stay in Sister Cities members' homes in Chester for ten days, then, the following year, Lakewood Sister Cities members provide housing for the visitors from Chester.
- Through our Music Scholar Program, Lakewood Sister Cities also exchanges one student musician with a student musician from Chester, for a two-week visit. The Jeffco musician will be given the opportunity to play with an orchestra while in England. If you know a gifted music student who would like to travel abroad, tell them about this program!

The famous Eastgate Clock is the second-most photographed clock in Great Britain (after Big Ben). It's been here since 1897, which makes it one of Chester's newer attractions. |
| Chester was founded as a Roman fortress in AD 79, making it the oldest of our sister cities. The straight streets, Roman amphitheater and city wall are all reminders of that time. Today it is also a treasure of Tudor architecture (much of it added in the 1800's). Here's a view of the striking Tudor shops on Eastgate Street from the clock bridge. |

Just a short drive or train ride away, North Wales beckons, with its charming villages, enchanted mountains, and magnificent castles. Gigantic Conwy Castle, begun in 1283, dominates the seaside town of Conwy.

| Every year, Lakewood Sister Cities helps sponsor the exchange of a gifted Jefferson County student musician with a student musician from Chester, for a two-week visit in each country. The Jeffco musician is given the opportunity to perform with an orchestra while in England, and the Chester musician performs with the Lakewood Symphony. |

The adults enjoy Chester, too! Groups of adults from Jefferson County stay in Sister Cities members' homes in Chester for ten days, following in the footsteps of ancient Roman centurions. Then, the following year, Lakewood Sister Cities members provide housing for visitors from Chester. |
